This unique low-energy house, situated on the outskirts of Megala Horafia/Aptera village in Western Crete, offers beautiful panoramic views to the White Mountains. The interior is designed with a village in-mind; an atrium is the central point, from which all the rooms of the house radiate. The three components, dining, seating area and bedrooms are slightly offset from the center; ‘paths’ and ‘lanes’, inside all lead outside. On entering there is a large front lobby with a storage room. One then enters the main house into the dining room, which leads off to a part covered courtyard. Off the dining room to the right is the fully fitted kitchen with a breakfast bar. A wood burning stove is situated at the base of the atrium providing additional heating for both the dining room and the lounge. Walking up a few steps one enters the lounge, from which there are two terraces. A small one just for admiring the view and the main terrace with two distinct sitting areas and giving 180 ° panoramic views to the majestic the mountain range of the "Lefka Ori" and to the different area villages. A study area is parallel to the steps.
From the atrium one descends to the bedrooms, on the lower level, a door leads one to the lower terraced garden, with its own ‘paths’ to different section. The main bedroom has a large bathroom with a walk in shower and the second double bedroom has a smaller bathroom with a shower cabin. This bedroom also has its own door leading to the gardens.
There is a study/studio with a mezzanine bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette with a separate entrance so can be used as a guesthouse.
This eco house is built with a timber frame and traditional clay brick walls. In order to obtain the Mediterranean character, the exterior walls have a plastered outer skin, on cement-bonded fiber lightweight boards. There are double glazed windows with mosquito blinds throughout and solar panels provide hot water and under floor heating.
The price is not negotiable.
